California

If you are locally licensed, then you must check with the  city or county that licensed you. Every jurisdiction will have different requirements.

If you are state certified, The California Massage Therapy Council is not currently requiring continuing education for renewal as of December 2011. However, you can use continuing education units to meet a portion of you hours to become state certified.

“Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) – Generally required to complete at least 500 hours of massage education and training. At least 250 hours shall be at an approved massage therapy school, and the remaining 250 hours required may be secured either from approved schools or from continuing education providers.”

Licensees must complete one (1) hour of CE for each month or partial month that has elapsed since the issuance of the license for which renewal is sought, up to a maximum of 24 hours for the renewal period.

Applicants are required to submit proof of completion of the following continuing education (CE) prior to issuance of license:

National Certification Renewal:

National certification renewal (NCBTMB) is a separate function from state license renewal. You can complete the required 48 CE Hours for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork online with us.
